Diwali

ok i agree this post is a bit late in the day....but i just couldnt let it go....diwali....somehow or the other for past some years diwali has been special.....with sweet memories of that particular day although the preceeding and succeeding days might have been filled with sad/hurt moments i wud luv to forget.

2004- after i dont knw how many years i celebrated diwali with dd, jijaji, dad, and sam (my brother). it was extra special as i was meeting dd and bhaiya after a long time and the whole family got together after an even longer time and the whole family together on a festival was after the longeeeeest time.......it was sad because the a very close and loved person had passed away a few days earlier....and it was worse as my world had come crashing down around me a couple of months earlier....people and relationships in whom i had believed more than i ve ever done in myself had proved that they were, after all, only people, and, only common fragile relationship.......i learnt that prayers are not always answered......wishes dont come true even if u wish hard, and paulo coelho is just an author when he says 'when u really want something, the whole universe conspires to give it to u'......i learnt that the list of 'things to get over' can sometimes be neverending and heart rending.....in spite of this, 2004 remains one of my fav diwali, more so as my room had been furnished by dd/bhaiya on that occasion. i ve been able to move only the dressing table to my new place.....

2005 - this diwali was spsd to be celebrated in my hostel room with the few people who hadnt managed to go somewhere. this grp was even smaller for me as i interacted mostly with people on my floor, who were mostly from delhi.....i cleared the room (first time after 4 months of having me and pooja there!!) and got diyas and stuff. at the last moment, pankaj's mom insisted i come and celebrate diwali with his family. i drove all the way to kalkaji in a big flowing skirt on my activa...met my cousin and her bf in gaziabad.... it was a memorable day being spent in the company of a family who was fun and welcoming. i think it wud be prudent of me not go over what had happened on the preceeding and succeeding days. some things ought not be mentioned in order to avert another war!! (i.e. if the person involved reads this blog!)

2006 - yes, one of the most memorable times in life.....exchange....how can i forget that night in salzburg when me, manghani, dada, anup and jis where roaming the empty streets joined by the guy from some iim (whose name none of us had caught and had a big discussion on whose guess was right!).....the phone kiosk which ate up manghani's 2 euros!! and the kick Jis aimed at its butt.....(the kiosk's not manghani's!!!!)anup's attempt to call his dad and our walking the empty and dark streets.....and the suspenseful train journey to our youth hostel which me, manghani and dada will not forget to end of days!!

2007- another different and memorable diwali....the first diwali where i played the main (and only) host....first time i did the pooja, lighting, diyas, dinner absolutely on my own....it was the first time i was hosting a proper dinner.......had gone to dd's place in the evening and then did pooja at home....lit all the diyas and arranged them....had cooked quite an extensive dinner and served it.....the bad part was that although the whole family was in pune, we did meet together and although me and sam went to B's place, we spent only an hour there....and i find it really weird when i am so close yet so far away from B and Beth.

lets see what the next few diwalis bring for me.....

today has been a good day for me...........dil se happy after a long time......the reason???? let me start from the beginning....generally i change phones every year....and i have been using my current phone for around 1.5 years now.....although i love this model(sony walkman series and i try not to think of the iphone(now that dd is in india and earning her indian salary, i have to forget a lot of free stuff:-(.....) i was sure something wud happen to make me change phones!!
the inevitable happened....one day when i woke up, the display on my phone was gone....just like that...out of the blue!!! last thing i remembered before conking out at night was the alarm and then first thing i see on getting up is a phone with a display that needs special glasses.....i was really upset and tried a lot of tips and tricks.....going to the extent of leaving it in the sun to soak up some warmth.....but nothing worked....dukhi hokar i went to sleep that night.....and next morning when i woke up, history repeated itself!! this time the ringtone was gone.....my sadness knew no bounds.....people who know me can understand....they know how attached i am to my electronic stuff.....luckily after a couple of days of R&D i found out that only the particular ringtone which i used generally had a problem and sounded grrhhhh grhhhh when a call came.....it worked fine for other tones.....to khair ek problem gaya.....
display ke liye i had a really tuf time....i cud not read messages, i missed calls and then cud not see the list.....finally i got one theme, where i cud just make out the stuff on the screen....i made the best of it...and this happened when i was so caught up in my brother's engagement that i did not have time to go to the service center also......finally after 3 weeks i took out time to get it serviced....after waiting in the queue and dismantling my phone and giving me an estimate of 1500 bucks for the new LCD....the service executive realised that my phone was a w600i model not available in india as opposed to the w550i sold in india....she said madam yeh jis country se liya wahan service hoga!!!!and i was under the impression that in this age of globalization, location holds no meaning!!
aur dukhi hokar apne dil aur phone ke tukde lekar main wapis aa gayi.....i mourned the phoen for days....and after the decent interval of mourning was over......dheere dheere mujhe iphone ke sapne aane lage......2 months passed....dd started planning her return to US...i started seeing myself closer to the iphone i was so crazy about.....
and today, just another day....i woke up in the morning and looked at my phone.....the display was as good as new!!!! every, every thing was bak to normal (except the old ring tone which i dont use anyways......) isko kahte hain karishma and i think i shud put up an entry in "Mann mein hai vishwas".......i had started distancing myself from my set so that i wud not feel separation pangs.....i had given up using the extra features....like putting manju's photo on her entry...so that i had to see her beautiful face everytime she called me!......ab aaj phone thik ho gaya to fat se uska snap lekar set kar deti hoon :-)

Jokes apart, i am really happy today....because, while new things do mean a pleasant change and some excitement in life....but when old things come bak to you, the differences forgotten or at least given the minimal importance they deserve, then u feel that yes, life does give u returns on ur investment.....the feelings u hold for a person, the care you shower on someone, will be returned, will come bak to you someday.....the only prayer i send is that- O god, let that return be while i still want it, while i can still appreciate it, and not when i have moved on to my new iphone and the old one has no place in my life even if i desperately want to fit it bak where it belonged.......

Thought

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends…..
