WOH KAAGAZ KI KASHTI, WOH BAARISH KA PAANI.......

Its raining here and the weather is awesome!!! The sea looks as if it has been freshly washed and bathed, constantly changing colors, showing us yet another of its multiple faces! The whole world has taken a new look......Rains here are so different from back home....no keechad, no running rivulets in which we used to float boats......and the worst is no dancing and getting drenched in the rain.

This evokes a plethora of memories and scenes flash before me....right from my mom making pakodas and sprouted beans and four of us (my mom and we three siblings) playing, my brother teaching me the are of making paper boats (funny, there was a time when we were actually so close!), dad helping me look for the appropriately sized paper, my chappal selling shop set up under an umbrella and discovered by my sis, the time i was dancing in the rain with an umbrella and my bro and sis were covertly watching me, my bday frock being spoilt by the rains, the mad drenching outside my school, DAV Durgapur, with Tarak bhaiya and Hetal( i still miss her so much!), aishita di giving tips on riding a cycle in a raincoat, the hopeless attempts at not getting wet on cycle ride to the bus stop in +2 in jamshedpur, terrace walks in pouring rain with Aparajita, my solitary walks in the rain in college and then being joined by Meenal and Manju, THE umbrella which Manju gifted me, scooty drives around Surat graduating to "dangerous biking" in Hazira in torrential rains, our convo when it rained, rained and rained and became a turning point in so many relationships, the umbrella episode in Bangalore (bet it will be Sachin's fav story for his grandkids!) the rains in Chennai flooding all the drains and me in the midst going to Sami's hostel to drop her off, the unlikely accident one day ( Sami ko to pakka yaad nahi hoga!), the rains in Pune which i would watch like an outsider from my bedroom window.......too old and tired in spirit to go out and absorb the freshness and vitality of pehli baarish.....

Wow, difficult to believe so much got screened in my memory theatre in the 10 min walk to college!!! Nothing to compare with the nostalgia of a cup of tea in the balcony looking out on the pouring rain.....esp if the balcony looks out on the Promenade de Anglais.....busy traffic on the Promenade complementing the relaxed holiday by the sea......black and white in harmony...

Promenade de Anglais...viewed from our balcony
