The best part about the convocation was the festive mood prevailing everywhere tinged with various degrees of sadness and nostalgia.....Another good part was that for the first time in my entire stay at MDI did i get to eat everything (esp the various varities of salads) at the Director's dinner....Due to my travel fiasco, i reached ggn a day before the convo and we had the Director's dinner in the evening.....i generally reach so late that a lot of the good stuff is gone and the queue is so long that i get totally put off whatever is left...this time we went early (being the abosolute vellas) and since we were hosts to the visiting parents, the hosts also got to eat a lot of the stuff! i was satisfied at least on that front!!
Another memorable incident was the rehearsal...We were asked to assemble and rehearse our positions for the photo shoot. As expected, the PGPM gang was the biggest, rowdiest, noisiest....Kaise bhi hum log ko gather kiya gaya....As we were jostling and pushing each other, a part of the structure (on which we were standing) came crashing down....Superb stress testing....luckily mere baju wala table gira, otherwise i wud have ended up with a good memoir of my weight! On a serious note, a potentially serious incident was averted.
It was fun meeting everybody's parents and saying anything and everything to them, secure in the knowledge that since nobody had come from my side, i was very safe!
The guest speaker gave a very boring speech!! And there were people who slept even thru it, a fitting tribute to what they did for the two years, by sleeping in the last lecture they were to hear.....
Two things occured which somewhat sombred the mood of the occasion....The first was that the average salary was quoted at 11.7lpa....i am sorry for all the parents who felt a bit sad and let down that their son/daughter did not even manage to get the average salary...i wonder how many people actually got that much! i got 9.5lpa and i thot i was among the better paid ones....it was even worse for students who were under a lot of pressure to bag well paying jobs...people only say that mba walon ko itni salary mili....nobody ever gives a thought to the pressure on those graduates which is worst when it is from home.....after all peer pressure is smthg which u can handle but the weight of ur parents ambitions and expectations is sometimes too heavy to handle......
The other incident which clouded the day for me was the award for the "outstanding student".....i know its not politically correct to say this but personally i feel that the particular "outstanding student" in question was outstanding only in 'chaaploosi' and i pity the "prof" who fell for such low down tactics......khair mujhe jyada farak nahi padta, the student had never commanded my respect anyways and the prof had already lost his long bak; the only little i had for him was just because he was a prof, and he succeeded in losing even that......The high point for me was that most of the medals were bagged by girls!! In whatever they do, girls are better than boys!! and nobody can take that away.....
It was only on the last day that i began to feel a bit nostalgic....another phase of my life over...and i m still nowhere near to what i want!!! mba had forced an entirely different lifestyle on me and lets see what good i can take from it....for me mba/mdi means a handful of people whom i cherish and because of mdi only, i came to know them and love them......and my life is better for having known them.....inke alawa, i am happy that the torture is over!!!
