I am reading "The Great Indian Novel" by Shashi Tharoor.....a book which holds your attention such that I read it in office too! It retells the story of mahabharat in context of modern Indian history (independence + a couple of decades post independence)
Tharoor has cleverly superimposed the mahabharat characters in new avatars and given new contexts to all the episodes. Satire, wit, sarcasm apart - the book shows up new lights on characters of our independence heroes - gandhi, nehru, bose etc....and this makes me go back to google again and again to satisfy my curiosity as to how much of the book is based on actual fact. In addition to this, tharoor provides a thoughtful insight on the characters and their behaviour
for eg i never knew that kamla nehru was ill treated and despised by her in laws as she did not know western ways. She was neglected by her husband and although she tried to be a part of his life and to walk with him on his path - he never really appreciated her or made her his companion......she changed herself and her life for him and he practically lived away from her......(refer http://www.jantb.com/kamla.htm)....the book very skilfully analyses how this might have affected indira.....
On another note, time seems good for me - month end meenal will be coming and next month shivi will be coming to pune
looking forward to some fun times ahead.
This was my first rakhi where i got a gift from my brother! ( or bhabhi in this case).....got some books i had been wanting for long.
Please dont watch 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' - pathetic!!! although the scenes shot in venice and rome led to a very nostalgic trip down memory lane. There was a tuchcha church in venice where me and manghani had clicked photos and even that was there in the song!! i dont know why people swoon over deepika - she is good looking but not beautiful! and my god what a super woman - din me bskool, raat ko taxi chalana aur shaam ko supermarket mein kaam karna!
