The Curtain Story

If you live in India:
1. Go to FabIndia and select curtains - 1 hour
2. Go to the local hardware store and select rods and ask them to send someone to hammer the rods into the wall.
3. Call the guy 20 times to make him actually come and do the work.

You are all set.

If you live in the United States of A:
1. Spend a year browsing different stores for curtains which are thick enough to actually block light and not just be a decoration piece.
2. Add a few more months to get them at a price where you can actually afford them for a few windows. The minimum I purchased was 50$ a window.
3. Watch multiple videos on YouTube to understand how do you actually hang them.
4. Google to understand what the various tools referred to in the YouTube videos actually are.
5. Go to home depot and pick out curtain rods.
6. Hunt up a customer service person to ask for sizes.
7. Tell them that you know nothing about hanging curtains and ask them to take you to the tools you need.
8. Ask the service person in the tools section to show how a level works.
9. Also tell them that you don't know what kind of drill bit you need for your own walls.
10. Spend a few days building up enthusiasm in your helpers.
11. Forget the helpers on D-Day, take out all stuff from boxes and figure out what goes where.
12. Get a ladder, climb up and make markings with level. Drill holes. Make more markings and triple check to make sure they are not crooked.
13. Try to keep husband away from the room so that he does not freak out with all the drilling and think that his walls are getting trashed.
14.Screw the rod holders in. Lose your breath making sure that the screws are tight. Hang the curtains.
15. Be happy that the curtains are up and that your hands got a good exercise.
16. Do a couple of rooms, forget the other rooms, put the tools and the ladder away.
