We are faced with so many choices everyday….how do we know which to choose;what is wrong and what is right? in fact I doubt even if a right/ wrong exists…what ppl try to see as black and white is actually a lot of different shades of grey. We all form our own rules and principles in life according to which we assign the different shades of grey to diff choices and we make choices according to the depth of those shades.
So how do we form these rules and principles? They are a combination of our background, upbringing, environment, education, school, college etc Whatever happens to us and around us gets added to the pool.
But life would be relatively simple if we could continue like this forever. Then someone comes along attacks all our beliefs in one go and announces that it is all wrong. In this conflict of beliefs/principles, if that person is someone very important to us, how do we decide who is right? The need to prove ourselves right is strong in both since it represents us as a person and the discussion to prove the other wrong can go on endlessly. U cannot say that whoever is RIGHT wins as there is no absolute right/ wrong after all. Letting the other person win means ur beliefs in life hold no meaning now while holding on to your principles means losing that person ultimately as very few people are able to accept differences with their loved ones regarding basic fundaas of life. We feel threatened when sum1 questions our beliefs. We all want others to be like us as that increases our self esteem and serves to make us feel good about ourselves, about the person we are. It is very easy to give gyaan to ppl on how they should live their life and really difficult not to interfere and still love them as they are.
Well, I believe that love is accepting others for what they are and not what u want them to be. It means understanding when to guide and when to let go. It’s true that we shud learn from others mistakes too instead of committing each one ourselves, but every body derives different learnings from the same lesson. Forcing ur point of view on others is never going to work. Imagine how difficult it is for parents to let go, but if they never did then we would have never learnt to walk!! So instead of trying to force people to change which makes them resist u all the more, give people the space they need and respect them for what they are and then they will respect u more….we can be mature only by giving credibility to maturity of others….and after all said and done…don’t be too sure of urself…after all no one knows what is right and what is wrong...its all grey with the shade depending on the angle u look at.....
