You might recall my review of "Once Upon a Timezone". I had felt bad at putting a bad review of a piece of "love and labor" on my blog.
I see that my sentiments are being shared by other book lovers :-) Read the review of the same book by Rashmi Bansal on her blog.
Saw Harry Potter - Order of Phoenix this friday. The movie was worth the trouble i underwent to escape from office and reach the theater in time. Superb acting and graphics...all in all a well made movie
But....i dont think i ll ever watch another Harry Potter movie....jo baat book mein hoti hai woh movie mein nahi ho pati!! In general, i feel that movies are not able to do justice to the books they are based on and this holds especially true for a genre like Harry Potter.....for in fantasy you are limited only by your imagination.....and the book is more wondorous than the movie even for unimaginative people like me.....i liked the way they flew on their brooms over the Thames, but the Dementors were a let down. When you read the book, the Dementors (or Death Eaters as they are nicknamed) create a surreal, eerie feeling and you get chilled to the bone in every encounter Potter has with them. In the movie, they were just another skull garishly decorated in black. They inspired disgust rather than fear.
Again depiction of many characters limited their scope in my imagination. Mc Gonagall's personality had enormous proportions in my mind while the movie limited her to an almost ordinary witch.....
So, i would suggest to people who love books and love Harry Potter to avoid the movies (irrespective of the rave reviews) to let the charm and the aura grow in their imagination and create another world in their dreams........
