Weekend was rest, relax and movies for me....saw 'Cheeni Kum' finally.....i was not sure that i wud actually like it since i am not able to relate to the concept of an indian girl falling in love with a 64 year old guy...twice her age.....but i must say that the movie has been made really well......the fact that the heroine, tabu, was 34 saved the movie from being incongruous.....she being 34 and bachchan being 64 made it more realistic than say had she been 24 and he 54.....at 34, you have been through a lot of guys., rejected a lot of them...you know what you like and dislike.....you are too sure of yourself and too bored of relationships, men and life to really fall for anyone headlong unless the chemistry is really great......where as at 24, you are dying for a romance and the concept sometimes become more important than the relationship.....speaking of chemistry....it was actually palpable on screen!!you could feel the tension, the challenge, the attraction....pehle pehle pyaar ke pehle pehle din yaad aa gaye....what a great euphoric feeling it was to be in love....to wait to talk again from the moment you kept the phone......to start looking forward to the next meeting the moment you said bye......i had forgotten that such a state could exist and was reminded of what had been once upon a time......
however, the latter part of the movie was a bit stretched and overdone.....too much focus on his age, we the audience are pretty good at grasping the general idea and we got the significance of his age in the first few instances.....paresh rawal harping so much on amitabh's age before he came to know of their affair was a bit unrealistic....
tabu's stubbornness in marrying him was protrayed in just the right amount....without the total disregard for a parent's feelings as in the case of a love struck teenager neither with the too much importance on family as in case of bhartiya naari....i cud identify with the fact that dad was important till the extent that she would not marry without his agreement but she would not let him dictate the choice of her life partner......
i ll let you make the rest of the judgements yourself.....before i sign off - the "saar" of the movie is that london jao to umbrella le jana mat bhoolna......
